Stone Mountain Arts Incubator Opens - The Champion News Paper January 3rd, 2011
The Stone Mountain Arts Incubator and Microenterprise Program, a project to beautify the downtown Stone Mountain area and provide space for selected artists opened Oct. 8, 2010. The artists have set up shop in Main Street spaces subsidized for a time by a grant to the city of Stone Mountain, ART Station and DeKalb County.
The new streetscape project and the arts incubator program are part of an effort to revitalized downtown Stone Mountain and make use of some of its previously empty retail stores. At the heart of the project is a sculpture, “Granite Workers,” by John Thigpen, a piece that celebrates the men who once worked the area’s granite quarries.

Artists In Stone Mountain Get Help Starting Their Business By Crystal Cruz Channel 2 News - October, 2010
A few artists in Dekalb County are calling a new program in the city of Stone Mountain an opportunity of a life time.
The city is helping six artists start their own businesses.
Tracie Hawkins is one of the artists and sewing is a passion of hers.
Hawkins spent twenty years working in corporate America, but a few years ago she ditched it to pursue her passion for the arts.
“If I’m not doing what I love, then I’m not living,” said Hawkins.
She applied for the Arts Incubator program this year.
The program is using a $247,000 grant from Dekalb County, to provide studio and gallery space to six artists.
Rent is fifty dollars a month, for at least one year.
“I have been given an opportunity that most people can't imagine,” said Hawkins.
In return the artists must take business classes, in hopes when they graduate, they'll rent their own...
