Description
The “Reflections” series of paintings captures the essence of the Children’s March of 1963 in Birmingham, Alabama. I believe that every event in our history has meaning. The children marched in a campaign to end segregation, but where stopped by water hoses and dogs to deter their peaceful demonstration. My interpretation is that these children went through this process so that we might enjoy our freedoms today. The three paintings in the “Reflections” series depict the process of sacrifice. The first painting is called “The River Runs Through Me.” The young man on the ground being hosed is drowning in suffering so that we might be able to hold our heads above water today.
